Christy Cloud, an innovative educator, sparked a global movement when she created superhero avatars using Microsoft Designer. Her creation, known as the EduGuardians, went viral among teachers, leading to the formation of a unique and growing community of educators worldwide.

In this episode, EduGuardians (Episode 142), we explore how what started as a creative idea has now become a vibrant group of over 130 members, all dedicated to supporting one another and bringing joy back to the teaching profession.

Here are some key takeaways about the EduGuardians and their mission:

  • In just a month and a half, the EduGuardians community grew to include over 130 members from countries like the US, the UK, and New Zealand. The group quickly became a hub for educators to connect, exchange ideas, and support each other. With its global presence, the EduGuardians movement reflects the collective energy and passion of teachers worldwide.
  • The Eduguardians are led by a group of dedicated co-founders: Alyssa Faubion, Heather Brown, Larisa Black, and Aileen Wallace. These educators are the heart of the community, working together to keep the group’s activities engaging and meaningful. Their leadership has driven the group’s success, as they create opportunities for collaboration and growth.
  • The primary aim of the Eduguardians is to foster a Professional Learning Family (PLF) and revitalize the teaching experience by making it fun and supportive. Members engage in various activities like creating superhero avatars and trading cards, participating in monthly "EduGuardian Exchange" meetups, and collaborating on educational technology strategies. Their focus on creativity and camaraderie helps educators stay energized and connected.
  • While the EduGuardians aren't solely focused on AI, they embrace various educational technology tools to enhance teaching and student engagement. Their approach earned them a feature in Forbes Magazine for tech recommendations. Looking forward, they plan to expand by introducing "Junior EduGuardians" for students and presenting at future conferences like ISTE and FETC.

The EduGuardians represent a grassroots movement that unites educators under a common goal: to "ignite learning" and bring joy back to teaching. By combining creativity, community, and cutting-edge technology, they are making waves in education and inspiring teachers around the globe.
